The
John Bramston School & Sixth Form College has a campus-wide
1 Gigabit fibre and copper network enabling users to access and
share files and applications from any computer. There are ten fully
equipped computer suites available for pupils' academic use with
more planned. These are used by classes throughout the day for
the teaching of core ICT and for ICT use in other subjects.
Other areas of the School/College including Design and Technology,
Art, Learning Support, Leisure and Tourism, Physical Education
and the libraries have clusters of networked computers with internet access, together with peripherals
such as laser printers, scanners and digital cameras. A large number of classrooms
have overhead data projectors and some have interactive classboards; an objective
of the school is that this equipment will be available as a teaching tool in
every classroom. The use of laptops and the wireless extension to the LAN network
provides additional flexibility.

A
twenty-four hour, 8Mb line connects the network to a filtered Internet
provider which allows individual pupils access throughout the day
from the Library and accommodates whole class use during lessons. Communication
within the school community is facilitated by providing staff members
with a school email account. This facility could be extended to
students in the future. Access to the School/College network is
available from home using the Schools’ Ranger
Outpost facility.
The School/College manages its own website, www.johnbramston.co.uk,
and hopes to develop an intranet/extranet in the future to provide
a central information and learning resource for the school community.
This would include the library catalogue, an online calendar of
events, as well as subject-specific information and resources.
Use of school/college IT facilities and network are subject
to our Acceptable Use Policy.
