Welcome to the English Department

The English National Curriculum is divided into three ‘Attainment Targets’. These are ‘Speaking and Listening’, ‘Reading and Writing’ including Spelling ‘Handwriting and Presentation’.

The English course aims to promote an active, enjoyable experience of English language and English literature through a broad use of materials and by employing a range of activities. Students will study both modern and pre-Twentieth Century plays, poetry and novels. Lessons are taught in accordance with the National Literacy Strategy which aims to raise all students standards of literacy.
