Learning Support

Welcome to the Learning Support Department

The John Bramston School believes strongly in inclusive education for all. The Learning Support team aims to ensure that all children, regardless of their ability or special educational need, are able to access the curriculum and reach their full potential.

The support begins in year 6, when the team visits the primary school to identify those children who will be needing support. Once at The John Bramston School the children are assessed regularly to make sure the appropriate support is given.

Individual Education Plans are drawn up for every student on Essex Stages of Assessment. These plans highlight the student’s needs and advise subject staff on how to meet them.

To ensure that these plans are successfully implemented the learning support team work in partnership with classroom teachers to provide a high level of individual and group support.

The children who need more individual support with spelling, reading, handwriting, numeracy and social skills are able to attend:

• Individual programmes at registration time
• Reading Recovery
• Study Skills lessons
• Lunch time clubs
• Self Esteem groups (run by a behaviour management specialist)
• Homework club.

Regular review meetings, involving parents take place and parents are encouraged to contact us for advice or help at any time.
