Students are taught in their tutor group for the
first term of Year 7 in all subjects apart from technology and
physical education. After this initial period, ability grouping
is introduced at various times throughout the first three years.
The ability grouping is organised separately for each subject and
is based solely on performance in that subject.
During years 10 and 11, classes are organised in relation to the
needs of particular courses and Key Stage 4 assessments which are
mainly GCSE-based.
There are 25 lessons in the weekly cycle, each of one hour duration.
“The quality of teaching is good. Teachers
have good subject knowledge and understanding. Parents overwhelmingly
agree that the school
expects their children to work hard and achieve their best.”
