The John Bramston School has taken delivery of ten battery reared hens. Staff and students have rescued the hens and will be caring for them at the school.

The Governing Body is continuing to explore the possibility of the John Bramston School moving to Academy Status in federation with Greensward College and the Rickstones School. The proposal is to discontinue the John Bramston School on the 31St August 2008 and to open a new Academy in its place on 1st September 2008.

We are setting up a chicken run at school and on Tues 11th March we will take delivery of 10 rescued battery hens.We will be selling our hens eggs (ungraded) from reception at a competitive price and the money will go back in to maintaining the hens, their feed and supplies.

On the 6th July 2007, forty two year 7 students accompanied by staff travelled by coach and eurotunnel shuttle to Boulogne in France.

The current year 9 students when in Year 8 enjoyed their week stay at the Mersea Outdoors camp. Students enjoyed testing themselves on the assault course, high ropes, climbing and abseiling tower.

Birds of Prey Visit Ever since seeing snakes and other reptiles at my sons primary school fete I have wanted to bring animals and birds into our school. They capture our interest, are educational and are usually good fun too!

My vision for The John Bramston School is quite simple: students will want to come to school and experience a safe and purposeful environment where they achieve the best that they can. They will study courses that are relevant and of interest to them. I hope that we can work together to fulfil these important aims.

We hope you had the chance to look at the new magazine FUSION written by students for students. The second edition, which came out on the 21st March, was produced by the FUSION workshop team, which is growing each week!

MOULSHAM MILL VISIT

It is traditional in Poland to paint eggs for Easter.
Students have created a colourful display of flowers and easter eggs to illustrate these traditions and they are on display in the Library.

Year 12/13 Charity Slave Auction On Friday 17th November 2006 Year 12 and 13 students put on a spectacular show and held a charity slave auction for Years 7 and 8. A total of £674 was raised for Children in Need!!

DISTRICT CROSS COUNTRY In October 2006 pupils from The John Bramston School took part in District Cross-Country, achieving 8th position overall. A special mention must go out to Jessica White, who achieved 6th place overall and is now our NW Essex District representative for Junior Girls. Also, Ash Tunbridge achieved 14th place and has won himself a place in the Essex District intermediate boys reserve squad.

THE REAL ME EXHIBITION was held at The Atrium, Central Library, Chelmsford from 1st to 11th November 2006.

Schools across the county were invited to submit paintings by students on the theme “The Real Me” as part of the countrywide Express Yourself 2006 initiative.

WITHAM IN BLOOM
On 19th October the Mayor and Mayoress of Witham, together with Mrs A Northfield, organiser of ‘Witham In Bloom’ came to the school to present prizes to the award winning pupils who entered.

CHILDREN IN NEED DAY - 17th November 2006
On the 17th November 2006, Year 12 and 13 students became slaves to years 7 and 8 students for the day in order to raise funds for "Children in Need". The slaves were in fancy dress and raised considerable sums for the charity.

WEAR it PINK Day Raised £950.00
WEAR IT PINK DAY - FRIDAY 20th October. Thank you to everyone who helped and contributed to our 'Wear it Pink' day. We raised a total of £950.00. Breast Cancer Campaign is the only charity that specialises in funding independent breast cancer research throughout the UK.

IT EXTENSION DAY
IT EXTENSION DAY: On the 20th March the gifted and talented pupils from years 9 and 10 participated in an extension day for IT. Each student learnt the difficulty of running a business, the deadlines and the thrill of having to get it ready in time. It was an intense, exciting day that all the pupils enjoyed. The only question left in all our minds ‘when will the next extension day be?’

A party of 50 Year Ten GCSE Art students from The John Bramston School in Spinks Lane, Witham were at The Tate Modern Gallery in London recently to study the work of great artists and gather inspiration from their paintings.

POOL TOURNAMENT 2006
In January, Adam Wilding (pictured presenting the trophies) organised and staged the John Bramston Sixth Form College Pool Tournament 2006, one competition for boys and one for girls.The tournament managed to raise £40 from entrants’ fees, which was given to the student committee. The tournament was very successful.

SIXTH FORM STUDENTS VISIT ELDERLY
In December Sixth Form College students visited residents at a local residential home and joined in the carol singing. Since then students have visited regularly and joined in the bingo and other activities.

Paris Trip - 23rd to 26th June The Paris trip was brilliant and with the coach breaking down on the way, resulting in a long wait at the services, it was probably one of the most eventful trips that any of us will ever go on. We visited many of the attractions and exhausted ourselves climbing 5000 steps to reach the top of the Eiffel Tower. We all had a stunning time and one that will be remembered.
